Social Development Goals
The work we do directly impacts and contributes to the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs) ear-marked by the UN. Our main contributions come from our ability to generate renewable energy, reduce the impact of climate change, enhance the waste management process, and create jobs.
The well-being of a nation's agri-food systems is intricately linked to the well-being of its populace. As global food system demands surge, India will have to deal with the challenge of nourishing a population of billions while simultaneously safeguarding natural resources and ecosystems for the benefit of future generation
We at Arka BRENStech contribute towards sustainable agricultural practices by recycling vital nutrients, organic matter, and carbon from organic waste back into the soil. The digestate, a byproduct of biogas plants, serves as a nutrient-rich biofertilizer, supplying the necessary nutrients for robust plant growth. This enhanced soil fertility translates to better crop yields and heightened nutrient levels that will help sustainably meet the food demands of a growing population.
India's landfills are grappling with a substantial legacy waste burden, estimated to be around 160 million tonnes at last count. This issue has triggered looming environmental concerns. Dangerous methane and carbon emissions and poisonous leachates are contributing to air, water, and soil pollution. Those living near landfills face constant threats to their physical and mental well-being - stemming from pollution and pathogens associated with these sites.
We at Arka BRENStech offer a viable solution for effective organic waste management. The large volumes of organic waste can serve as a valuable resource for biogas plants, where it can be repurposed into eco-friendly biofuel and nutrient-rich digestate. Shifting organic waste to biogas facilities not only eases the strain on landfills but also mitigates pollution and halts the propagation of diseases
The 2023 Gender Gap Report places India at a low 127th position among 146 countries. A substantial portion of this gender gap results from the disproportionate responsibilities borne by women and children, including household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and firewood collection, leaving minimal or no time to pursue an education.
We at Arka BRENStech are aware of this gender disparity and actively contribute towards addressing this issue through strategic efforts that include offering women and girls the opportunity to attain economic self-sufficiency. The implementation of biogas plants in rural communities helps reduce the burdens traditionally shouldered by women, and gives them time to pursue educational and empowerment initiatives.
Improper waste management can contaminate water and contribute to climate change by emitting greenhouse gases, causing air pollution, and damaging aquifers through methane fires. This endangers the physical well-being of entire populations.
We at Arka BRENStech not only provide a way to treat and recycle harmful biosolids at our Biogas plants but also help reduce the carbon loading of wastewater to safeguard water bodies and ensure availability of safe water and sanitation for all. When all the organic waste is diverted to the biogas plants, the sanitation and hygiene conditions in our cities can drastically improve.
According to a report titled “Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change” India recorded the death of over 330,000 people due to exposure to particulate matter from fossil fuel combustion. This translates to 1 death every 2 minutes.
We at Arka BRENStech work towards reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels for generating energy by setting up biogas plants in rural areas, thereby ensuring that even the remote parts of the country have access to clean energy. We use locally produced crop waste and animal manure as feedstock for the biogas
India has been struggling with the issue of growing unemployment not only in rural areas but in urban centers too because of various deep-rooted challenges like a reduction in the landholding size, lack of infrastructure, over-dependence on forest resources and lack of employment opportunities.
We at Arka BRENStech help tackle this problem by providing work opportunities for those in need. Our biogas facilities employ a diverse workforce, consisting of both skilled and unskilled workers. The establishment and operation of biogas facilities necessitate the expertise of professionals such as engineers, project managers, and technicians. Meanwhile, certain tasks like procuring feedstock, maintaining cleanliness, and handling routine chores can be performed by unskilled labor. Encouraging young individuals to establish biogas facilities can significantly enhance entrepreneurship opportunities
As India develops at a rapid pace, it is imperative that industries focus not just on building robust, resilient infrastructure but also ensure that they follow sustainable practices and adopt clean and environment-friendly technologies.
We at Arka BRENStech help improve the resource-use efficiency of industries by offering our expertise on recycling effluents and organic waste to produce energy. By doing so, we not only help industries reduce their carbon footprint but also make them self-reliant in energy generation.
Despite the government's dedicated efforts, India still has more than 828 million individuals, residing in slums. Add to this the fact that India ranks as the 8th most polluted nation, with PM 2.5 emissions surpassing the WHO's annual air quality guideline by a substantial 10.25-fold. These alarming statistics amplify concerns related to water supply, waste management, and urban infrastructure.
We at Arka BRENStech believe that the integration of biogas technology offers a viable solution that can help India meet the UN SDG 11 goal. By facilitating effective waste management, we not only help reduce pollution but also bolster sanitation, hygiene, and consequently hinder the spread of disease. Additionally, refined biogas can be transformed into biomethane, serving as an eco-friendly transportation fuel that diminishes greenhouse gas production, and significantly improves air quality. This holistic approach contributes to achieving broader UN sustainability goals, with far-reaching positive implications for environmental preservation, and public health.
Extreme weather events like heat waves, landslides and flooding have become rampant across the globe in recent years, affecting the lives of people and their livelihoods. Climate change, if not contained, is a serious threat to future generations.
We at Arka BRENStech are focused on combating climate change. We work with our stakeholders and partners to scientifically process organic waste, food waste, animal waste and crop residues at our biogas plants. In doing so, we contain emission of harmful greenhouse gases, generate clean biogas for cooking and heating purposes and, reduce the burden on the over-flowing landfills.
The fate of our future is intricately linked to the health of terrestrial ecosystems. Shockingly, approximately 18 million acres of forests vanish each year due to rampant deforestation that contributes to a staggering 15% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions. This threatens the future of our world.
We are Arka BRENStech offer sustainable solutions to foster agriculture, combat land degradation, desertification, and deforestation by substituting firewood with biogas for cooking, heating, and energy needs.
